Why was this group created?Approximately 1 in 5 adults are infected genitally with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). It is estimated that 50% to 80% of adults are infected around the mouth with HSV (cold sores aka fever blisters.) At least 50% of sexually active adults will have Human Papillomavirus (HPV) at some point in their lives. 1% of sexually active adults have genital warts at any given time.
These viruses can happen to anyone. Chances are that at least one of your friends, relatives, or coworkers has either HSV or HPV. Despite how common and contagious these viruses are, it's typical for newly diagnosed patients to feel ashamed, guilty, alone, and depressed. This group was created in an effort to bring these people together and help them understand that we are not alone.
